Gandhi Podcast Reflection
A listened to a short podcast on Gandhi and a little about how he grew up and what shaped him into the man he was. As many know, Gandhi was very into fasting, and he believed in it strongly. He used fasting as a way for people to make peace and stop fighting. But, Gandhi didn’t just learn this himself, his mother played a big role in this. Gandhi’s mother taught Gandhi how to fast in his early years. She taught him that fasting is way to grow self respect, discipline, and control. This evidently made Gandhi stronger physically and mentally. Gandhi’s mother also influenced him in more of a religious aspect as well. She taught him how to pray and read scriptures. I believe the fasting and religious teachings helped Gandhi become the strong, peaceful man he was known for. His whole message was pease and no war, and I believe after much fasting and prayer he become more peaceful and positive.

Gandhi read a lot of stories that helped change his mindset positively. These stories made Gandhi want to be a good person. Gandhi traveled to London around age 18 to go to college and become a lawyer. I believe his choice to study law was very influential to his later years of politics and government. I believe this knowledge helped guide him and make him such a peaceful threat to Britain. Even away from home, Gandhi kept his beliefs and religious mind set. His parents were worried he would go against religion by going to London, but he kept his faith strong and it was not breakable. This really shows how important faith is to him, and how strong he is in his beliefs and faith.

Gandhi learned early that the British were not a good fit to rule his home land of India. When he got back to India, he did everything in his power to make India free and free from evil British rule. Gandhi learned about the British from personal experience and self growth. Gandhi didn’t believe in freedom through violence. He believed strongly in peaceful protest to gain freedom. This is a very good moral to have and I think peaceful gain of freedom saved India from a lot more death and violence. Gandhi passed on his peaceful mindset to the people of India so they wouldn’t fight and act out against Britain. Gandhi would use fasting as a way to stop his people from using violence. Gandhi was a very smart man and he knew that his people would stop fighting if they heard Gandhi was slowly dying from fasting. To summarize my reflection on the podcast, I learned a lot more about how Gandhi was raised and how his morals and peaceful philosophy came to be. This podcast really opened my eyes a little more to how powerful Gandhi was and everything he went through, and he some how stayed strong in his faith and stayed peaceful.
